A General Information

Botox Cosmetic is an injected substance made of botolinium toxin Type A, a purified protein derived from the bacteria Clostridium Botolinium. When injected into a facial muscle, it temporarily inactivates the muscle, essentially making the muscle so it can't contract and produce wrinkles, known as dynamic wrinkles. It is injected in minute doses to achieve an isolated effect, without spreading to other nearby muscles.

Botox is one of the most effective cosmetic treatments available today and has revolutionized the way we treat facial wrinkles that are caused by excessive facial tension. Today, millions of Botox injections are performed each year with unsurpassed efficacy and safety results.

Facial expressions are produced by a number of muscles that are located below the skin of the face. Some of these muscles are necessary for important functions such as closing the eyes and moving the mouth. Many of the facial muscle do not have a vital role and are only involved in expression of tension, anger or stress.

Facial wrinkles are in large part caused by hyperactive facial muscle that through repetitive motions can create lines and wrinkles on the face. These lines and wrinkles are temporary at first, but over time, they can become permanently engrained into the skin. Facial wrinkles that are most commonly treated with Botox are frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet.
With current advance knowledge of facial muscle anatomy and experience, we can also safely treat lines around the mouth and other areas of the face.

The following are some precautions on Botox procedures:

  • Botox causes some side effects in a small percentage of patients. The main side effects include eyelid droopiness, nausea and pain and redness around the injection site. These side effects are only temporary.
  • Pregnant women and people with nervous system diseases may be more vulnerable to side effects from Botox and shouldn't have the procedure.
