Botox

Botox

Botolinium toxin or popularly known as Botox is used in a simple non-surgical procedure with a level of discomfort equivalent to the sting of an ant-bite. The injected solution relaxes facial muscles that cause expression lines; leaving the facial skin smooth without wrinkles. When injected into a facial muscle, it temporarily inactivates the muscle, essentially making the muscle so it can't contract and produce wrinkles, known as dynamic wrinkles. It is injected in minute doses to achieve an isolated effect, without spreading to other nearby muscles. Results will be noticeable after 5-7 days.

The application of Botox in facial rejuvenation covers many areas:-

Brow Raising
Botox can be used to elevate the brows, resulting in a more youthful appearance. This has been referred to in the literature as a chemical brow lift.

Wide Muscular Cheeks
Muscle in the cheeks and jawline can become prominent, giving a wide faced appearance. Muscle in the cheeks and jawline can become prominent, giving a wide faced appearance. These muscles can be bulky and especially in women, can produce an unwanted masculine jawline. Botox injections work nicely to minimize the bulging of the cheeks, and much smoother more feminine jaw.

Upper Lip Lines
Pursing the lip while talking, whistling, smoking or drinking from a straw can contribute to the formation of vertical lip lines. This makes the area around the mouth appear much older. A small amount of Botox injected into the muscle of the upper lip can reduce the appearance of these lines, while maintaining facial expression. Botox in the upper lip produces even more dramatic results to fill in the static lines and furrows that are too deep to completely diminish with Botox alone. These deeper static lines are the result of volume loss form the lips and are dramatically improved with injectable fillers.

Neck Bands
Tightening and banding of the neck muscles can give an appearance of an aging neck and stress. Surgery is not always necessary at this point. The bands are caused by a tension in a muscle caused the platysma that serves no vital function. Botox injections can relax these muscular bands, giving the neck a smooth appearance without surgery. The vertical bands that extend from under the chin to the base of the neck are caused by the neck muscle called the platysma. Botox can be injected into the muscle to temporarily reduce the appearance of these bands. This is a simple in office procedure that requires no anesthesia and allows you to get right back to your normal activities.

Crow's Feet
Crow's feet, also known as lateral canthus lines, are what we called dynamic wrinkles. This means that the wrinkles are caused by muscle contractions, specifically squinting. Smiling and squinting will eventually leave lines extending from the corners of the eyes to the cheek. These lines around the eyes are given the unflattering name of crow’s feet. Botox placed in the crow’s feet area allows you to smile without causing these lines to worsen. Botox can also improve the appearance of already existing lines.

Frown Lines
Frown lines and ‘worry lines’ are by far the most common site of Botox injection. Squinting and scowling repeatedly over time can cause vertical lines (knows as the 11s!) to form between the eyebrows, producing an angry, worried, tired or stressed appearance. Botox can be used to relax this scowling muscles, allowing for a more relaxed and good-natured appearance. Furthermore, Botox injected between the brows (glabella) have been shown to improve tension headaches and even migraines related to the repeated tightening of these muscles in the brow.

Forehead Lines
Throughout the day, we often lift our eyebrows without even noticing it. This repeated movement causes deep and eventually permanent horizontal lines to form across the forehead, which gives an aged or stressed appearance. Botox can relax the forehead muscles in order to decrease the appearance of these lines and keep them from worsening.
With advancing age, the eyebrows droop further and we have to work even harder to try to keep them up which in turn make the forehead lines even deeper. Botox
treatments to the forehead will help improve these horizontal forehead lines and keep them from becoming permanent.

Droopy Brows
When the brow is droopy, otherwise beautiful and expressive eyes can look tired or angry. Botox injections can help perform a non-surgical brow lift by relaxing the muscle responsible for causing heaviness of the eyebrows. This gives a well-rested and more alert appearance to the eyes.
In some patients the position of the eyebrow can be improved with the use of Botox injected into the muscles between the eyebrows which produce the frown lines, and into the “laughter lines” at the outer aspects of the eyelids. The injections are very quick and simple to perform and are repeated every 4-6 months. Botox can also improve the outcome of surgery performed to raise the eyebrows by preventing the action of the muscles which pull the eyebrows down.

Dimpled Chin
Tightening of the chin with expression can give the chin a dimpled ‘orange peel’ and irregular appearance. This dimpling can be improved greatly with Botox injections to the muscle of the chin (mentalis).
